Communication allows you to explain what you are experiencing and what your needs are.

It is a basic need that we all have and is vital in every relationship.  The act of communication not only helps you meet your needs but it also helps you to connect with the other person. When a breakdown in communication occurs, this can cause a great deal of frustration and even anxiety.

If your toddler cannot express his wants or needs, you witness this frustration first hand throughout the day. If you have a preschool child whose speech is highly unintelligible, you also know this frustration. Perhaps as a person who stutters, you are painfully aware of the anxiety and fear surrounding attempts to communicate with co-workers or order at a restaurant.

My goal is to break down these difficulties and  help make communication a successful and enjoyable process.  There’s nothing quite like watching your baby or toddler learn to point, wave “bye-bye” or say “mama” for the first time. When your preschool child can play with peers and hold little “conversations” while being understood by her pals, it brings such joy and relief to a parent. When a person who stutters realizes he can gain the skills and confidence to say his name or order at a coffee shop without the anticipated fear of stuttering, this is a communication breakthrough.

Outside of being a speech-language pathologist, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially my husband and three children. In my spare time I enjoy music, dancing, and supporting my children in their own endeavors in classical piano and guitar as well as athletics.  When we can get away, we love to visit Nashville for great live music and to spend time with family.
